How to Withdraw Money from PayPal in South Africa

PayPal is one of the leading payments solutions worldwide, trusted by millions of people across the globe. Wondering how to use PayPal in South Africa? Or how does PayPal work in South Africa? In this article, we’ll see how to create a PayPal account and use it to receive payments online in South Africa.

You can withdraw your PayPal funds to any South African banking account. This includes Standard Bank, Nedbank, ABSA, and all other South African banks. The withdrawal process only requires that you link your South African bank account to PayPal. To withdraw money from your PayPal account:

Click Transfer Money below your PayPal balance.

Follow the instructions.

To withdraw money on the app:
Tap your PayPal balance.
Tap Transfer Money.
Follow the instructions.

Automatic transfers enable you to schedule the withdrawal of your PayPal balance to your bank account at a desired frequency and amount.

To set up Automatic transfers:Click the More Options icon next to your PayPal balance and select Automatic transfers.
Select which bank account, the frequency, and the amount, and click Turn on Automatic Transfers.

You can set a minimum balance to ensure that there’s sufficient money in your account for refunds, purchases, etc.

If you have a PayPal account in South Africa, you can withdraw money from your PayPal account directly to your First National Bank of South Africa (FNB) or any linked South African bank account.

You will need an FNB Online Banking profile. If you don't bank with FNB, you can create a free FNB Online Banking profile and link your PayPal account to your South African bank account.

To link your PayPal account to your FNB account:Log in to your FNB Online Banking profile at www.fnb.co.za.

Click Forex, then click PayPal Services.
Select the menu option on the left, then select Link PayPal Profile.
Complete the instructions to link your accounts.

You’ll need to log in to your PayPal account to confirm that you are the account holder.

To link your PayPal account to your other South African bank account if you don’t have an FNB account:Go to www.fnb.co.za.

Click Register, then click Register for PayPal for non FNB customers.

You will need to submit certain FICA (The Financial Intelligence Centre Act) documents via email (paypalkyc@fnb.co.za) to complete the registration. Once you've completed the FICA process, you can link your verified PayPal account to your bank account(s). You'll be able to add your non-FNB account for withdrawal purposes.

After linking your PayPal account to your bank account, here’s how to withdraw money:

Log in to your FNB Online Banking profile at www.fnb.co.za.
  • Click Forex, then click PayPal Services.
  • Select the menu option on the left, then select Withdraw from PayPal.
  • Enter the withdrawal amount in US Dollars (make sure you have enough money in your PayPal balance to make this withdrawal).
  • Follow the instructions to confirm the exchange rate, the Rand amount you will receive, and the transaction terms and conditions.
You’ll be taken back to the PayPal website to log in and review the amount you are withdrawing to your FNB or another South African bank account. After completing this, you’ll then be sent back to the FNB website. You'll receive your money in your FNB bank account within 3 to 5 business days.

All transfers are subject to review and could be delayed or stopped if PayPal identify an issue.
